Operating from a major airport is of great benefit to student training. The environment of such an airport is very different from that of a quiet grass strip and demands a real understanding of operational procedures. The skill and experience learnt here are vital for pilots when they enter the professional world of aviation.
Despite being a significant airport, the airspace is not cluttered and students rarely find themselves held in a queue to land or depart. The use of the runways for touch and goes is permitted and all procedural training is supported. There are no fees for approach, landing, ground handling or parking.
We currently have offices on the apron to support flight operations including briefing, debriefing and flight dispatching. We are in the process of moving these offices into a grounded Tupolev airliner !. The airport terminal provides all the normal amenities including fast food, restaurants and shopping. The airport is 16 KM from the city of Thessaloniki and 4 KM from the coastal town of Peraia. There is a very good bus service from the airport to all local destinations.
